(RED SKIES OVER) PARADISE
Georg Steidinger l (RED SKIES OVER) PARADISE
Mixed Media on canvas, framed, 60x60cm
Palms, beach, sun, sea… on one side. On the other, Red Skies over Paradise references the 1981 album by British band Fischer-Z, which addresses Cold War tensions and politics. The red sky above the idyllic palm beach creates an apocalyptic weight, contrasting with the dreamlike atmosphere. At the center, the word "Paradise" appears in radiant silver, symbolizing a lost utopia, while lower in the image, the same letters in black collage style reflect decay. The artwork conveys the tension between hope and the threat to the idealized "paradise."
Portrait. Screenprint. Words. Glamorous. Fashion. Pop culture – all covered on a vintage record cover. Elements of pop culture are remixed. From a series of vintage screenprints in pop art style with silver screen printing and black oil paint on randomly selected vintage record covers. Words and typography set the stage. They interact with the portrait and the mythical background made of fragments from the original record cover... Thoughts and memories awaken. Framed in a black wooden shadow gap frame.Georg Steidinger l (RED SKIES OVER) PARADISE
